DAY 13. SURFING AT NEWQUAY.

10.30 a.m: Not the most healthy of breakfasts at BURGER KING, in Newquay.
Al final casi todos caímos y nos zampamos una hamburguesa para nuestro 2º desayuno, y dejamos el packed lunch para después del surf.

We were lucky to go on the 2nd shift, while our friends from Sevilla had their lesson at 11.00 a.m.

In the afternoon, we divided into 2 groups: some of us went to Quaywest, the water park, while others preferred to stay at Paignton seafront, and did a Treasure Hunt.

In the evening we went on a Ghost Tour at Kents' Cavern. Very frightening!!

DAY 12. FRIDAY 2nd WEEK. CERTIFICATES.

Today was our last day at school. The last lesson with our teachers consisted of playing a game in which we had to find letters that were hidden in different places in the school, y luego había que formar unas palabras con esas letras.

After the game, it was time for Bret and Chris (the Directors) to hand out the students' certificates and their teachers' reports. They all good excellent marks and reports (incluso mejores que en España)

DAY 11. THURSDAY 2nd WEEK. DARTMOOR.

Today we visited Dartmoor National Park, which is about 600 metres above sea level.

We got off the bus and started walking up the hill towards Haytor, una de las muchas formaciones rocosas (de granito) que se pueden encontrar por aquí.

After Haytor, we had a cream tea (la merienda típica de Devon) in Widecombe, a small village which had 3 SHOPS.

DAY 10. WEDNESDAY 2nd WEEK. MARINE WILDLIFE.

Today's afternoon activity was a marine wildlife boat trip.

Se suponía que ibamos a ver focas y delfines, pero sólo conseguimos ver algunas aves marítimas: our dear seagulls, some cormorants, and even a pilgrim falcon (halcón peregrino).

In Brixham you can visit a replica of The Golden Hind (La Cierva Dorada), the famous ship that Sir Francis Drake (el corsario inglés) used in order to sail around the world in 1580.

Qué fríooo!!!! No os preocupéis, mamás, que aparte de algún estornudo y algún leve dolor de garganta, todos estamos sanos todavía.

Today we had our 2nd sunny, warm day, so we made the most of it, and did some sport after lunch:

After that we went on a trip to Exeter, where we had a quick visit to the beautiful Gothic Cathedral, and then a tour around the city.

Aquí tuvimos que enfadarnos con algunos, ya que la mayoría wanted to go shopping again, y les obligamos a hacer el tour para que aprendieran algo sobre la ciudad (in English), en lugar de gastarse lo poco que les queda en tiendas como H&M, Berschka, Primark, Zara, y otras que tienen en España.

This is believed to be the narrowest street in the world (only 62 cm wide), pero la gran mayoría se la perdió porque la vimos después de darles permiso to go shopping for 1 hour.

DAY 8. MONDAY 2nd WEEK. LESSONS AND SWIMMING.

Lots of things going on today. About 90 new students have arrived from different parts of Europe: Spain (Sevilla and Barcelona), Russia, Sweden, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, ...
The school is VERY BUSY!
Estas fotos son de la semana pasada, pero las ponemos hoy porque entre la lluvia, y el montón de alumnos nuevos que han llegado hoy, no hemos podido hacer ninguna.

Por la tarde ibamos a ir a QuayWest, el parque de agua, pero el día no acompañaba, y ante la posibilidad de pillar una pulmonía, nos hemos conformado con una indoor swimming pool in Torquay. Estos cenutrios ingleses no nos han dejado hacer fotos allí, así que sólo tenemos éstas que hemos hecho en el bus de línea que hemos cogido.

DAY 7. SUNDAY 1st WEEK. PLYMOUTH.

On Sunday we went on a day trip to Plymouth, the biggest city in the South-West of England (population: about 250000)

Martin told us about the Mayflower, the ship that took the English pilgrims to America in 1620.

It was sunny and warm for the first time!!

After visiting the National Aquarium, we had free time to go shopping.

Algunos ya se han fundido casi todo el dinero, después de ir shopping dos días seguidos.
No se les puede dejar solos!!

DAY 6. SATURDAY. FREE DAY.

Saturday was a free day to spend with our families or friends. Some students decided to go shopping to Torquay, and others did some sport in the afternoon.

Today we visited Paignton zoo. It's the 3rd largest in Britain!

Some of the birds were really hungry, so Carlos Jr, Marcos and Samuel gave them some food

DAY 3. WEDNESDAY 1st WEEK. DARTMOUTH BY TRAIN (AND FERRY)

Después de las clases y de la comida es el momento de seguir aprendiendo y practicando el idioma pero de manera más relajada. Hoy tocaba visita a Dartmouth. Es una bonita e histórica ciudad en la desembocadura del río Dart (eso mismo es lo que significa el nombre) que queda cerca de Paignton y a la que se puede ir en tren con locomotora de vapor. En su academia militar estudiaron los hijos del Príncipe Carlos. Durante la edad media fue base de la flota inglesa y aquí se construyeron los barcos con que los ingleses fueron a las cruzadas. También fue el lugar donde se reparó el Mayflower para su famosa travesía.

Tom guided us around Dartmouth, but most students preferred to walk around the town by themselves. Only José David, Guido and another Italian boy came with the teachers.

DAY 2. TUESDAY 1st WEEK. BOWLING AT TORQUAY.

The SUN came out during the break, so we could play some volleyball for the first time.

Aquí estamos en la carpa que hay en el School Garden, donde nos dieron las carpetas de bienvenida, y esperamos a que nos dijeran qué grupo y que teacher nos correspondía.

In the afternoon, we had an intro tour around Paignton.
La lluvia nos acompañó toda la tarde, para que aprendamos no sólo el idioma y la cultura, sino también acerca del typical English weather.

Half of the group went with Nick, and the other half with Tom.
There was low tide (marea baja) at 3.00 in the afternoon, so the harbour didn't look very nice.

Como no paraba de llover, tuvimos que refugiarnos at the Lighthouse, where we'll go dancing next week. Allí estuvimos jugando y organizamos un fashion show muy divertido.

El certamen era internacional, y temíamos un poco a los italianos, por su fama como diseñadores, pero no pudieron hacer nada contra nuestra inventiva, especialmente el Asterix's look de Ramón.

DAY 0. JOURNEY.

No se notaba que iba un grupo de adolescentes españoles en el avión. (La azafata tuvo que pedir silencio mientras daban las instrucciones de seguridad y los nuestros hacían fotos a los "azafatos" indicando cómo ponerse el chaleco salvavidas)

14.00 h. Landing at Bristol airport. Sunny, but chilly (only 15ºC)
Puntualidad británica. A las 14.45 (local time) ya estábamos en el bus, rumbo a Paignton.

Last night we had a re-union, to talk about and remember our successful and enjoyable trip.

We went out for dinner to Pizzeria Imperial, in Mojácar.

Nearly everyone was there. We missed a few students who could not come: Ángela, Marta, Isa, Rubén, Sergio and Miguel Ángel.

We had a good time while we waited for the huge pizzas to arrive.

Carlos and MJ got a present: a full-sized group picture, so that we remember this trip.

Thank you guys, you will always be in our memory.

Sunday, 4^th July. Today we woke up very early (as usual), although this time we had to get up and get ready to leave Paignton.

To celebrate our last day in Paignton, we went to Woodlands, a big theme park where we had a lot of fun.

DAY 12. DARTMOOR & DIPLOMAS

Friday, 2nd week
Today we visited Dartmoor National Park. The bus was one hour late, so we took some pictures while we were waiting.
Sí y no solo eso... también los profes y los monitores bailamos un poco para hacer más llevadera la espera.

We climbed up Hay Tor, a massive rock from which we could see Tor Bay, even though it was cloudy.
Había unas vistas maravillosas... y algunos parecían cabras montesas... subiendo y bajando... nos han puesto el corazón a 100!!!

Coming down was even more difficult, especially for some girls who were not wearing proper shoes.

Gracias a nuestra discreción los ponys salieron huyendo.

In the afternoon, some of our students "offered" to do some car washing, to compensate for having arrived late at some of the activities.

Thursday, 2nd week.

Today we went to Torquay, and visited a place called "Living Coasts", where we saw different sea animals: penguins, seals, birds and fish.

Yo pensaba que los pingüinos eran figuras... y petrificada me quedé cuando vi que se movían.

The football World Cup is a very big event here in England, and the penguins are also following it.

Tuesday, 2nd week.

Another boat trip today, but this time we went fishing.

Sí, sí... se supone que íbamos a pescar... pero los peces se fueron con Eusebi... y los alumnos catalanes!!!!

Some students decided that fishing nothing was very boring, so they started to play with the school leaders (Thanks, Tom)

Es que como todo se lo llevaron los del primer barco... había que "matar" el tiempo de alguna forma.

After 45 minutes, José Ignacio and Clara managed to catch one. WELL DONE!!

Sí... después de 45 minutos pescamos algo... y para colmo ¡¡¡¡lo tiran al mar!!!!

Carlos decided to turn his fishing rod into a rock guitar, and he amused the rest of "fishermen" with his singing skills.

In the evening we enjoyed the football match against Portugal before the disco.

Most girls went dancing in their best outfits, while the boys stayed at school until the match finished.

DAY 8. BEACH GAMES

Monday, 2nd week.

Today we have about 60 new students in our school, so we have had to change shifts. Now it's activities in the morning, and lessons in the afternoon.

Aquí tenemos a nuestros chicos jugando al voley... ¡¡¡Han progresado un montón!!! (De aquí al Unicaja...). Fue una mañana "movidita"... aunque nos cansamos pronto...

After a few English games, MJ suggested some "acrosport" figures.
¡¡¡Esta maravillosa pirámide se rompió al sacar la foto!!!! Tom es un monitor al que le gusta jugar al rugby... y al que nuestros chicos enseñaron un poco de acrosport. (Por cierto...No nos salen las cuentas... Adrian... ¿qué haces?)

On Saturday we went on a full-day trip to Plymouth, one of the most important towns in Devon.

Once again, blue sky and warm day.

Ahora la cuadrilla ha aumentado, pues hemos hecho "buenas migas" con otros estudiantes (catalanes, italianos, franceses...)

DAY 5. BRIXHAM

After a very busy weekend, we are now ready to get back to work.

On Friday we went on a boat trip to Brixham, a beautiful village in Tor Bay.

Algunos se olvidaron de ponerse crema y ahora están pagando las consecuencias... Quién nos iba a decir que nos íbamos a poner morenitos!!!!

This is the shortest lighthouse in the world. It stands on top of a cliff, so it's easy for the boats to see.

DAY 4. PAINTBALL & BARBECUE

Today we went paintballing. Here we are getting ready for the BATTLE.

Recogiendo el traje de combate... aún no teníamos ninguna herida de guerra... pero esperen y vean... ¡lo mejor está por llegar!

Carlos got hit by friendly fire.

Estas son las heridas de guerra de la última batalla... Carlos fue el valiente que no se quedó salvando la bandera e intentó llegar al campo enemigo... pero fueron sus propios compañeros los que no se lo permitieron... Más de uno necesitaría una revisión de la vista....

Tranquilas, mamis... la ambulancia no tuvo que venir a por nadie.

In the evening, barbecue with burgers and hot dogs. After eating, we played some games and danced the limbo rock. Nobody could beat Miguel Ángel!!!!

Fue una tarde estupenda y nos ayudó a superar los efectos de la dura batalla.

DAY 3. TREASURE HUNT & WATER PARK

While the students are having their English lessons, we work in the Computer Room and we choose the photographs that we are going to post in the blog.

After the break, the 2nd lesson was outside the classroom. It was a treasure hunt around town, in which they had to answer 20 questions about places in Paignton.

¡Qué monos! Tan calladitos, tan ordenados... prestando tanta atención... En fin... sin enterarse... ja ja ja...

Some of the other foreign students are very friendly and are making friends with us.

Aquí tenemos a Nima, una chica italiana muy simpática que ha hecho muy "buenas migas" con todos nosotros.

After lunch, we went to Quaywest water park, where we had a lot of fun going down the slides.

María José did not dare go down the Kamikaze. (CHICKEN!!!)

Joooo!!!! Ni yo ni casi ninguna chica... Es que era una caída vertical y yo soy más responsable que algunos "camicaces" de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme... (menos mal que estoy yo aquí... que si no...)

DAY 2. KENTS CAVERN AND CINEMA

After the morning lessons, we visited KENTS CAVERN, where we learnt about prehistoric times with the explanations of a superb guide.

Estuvo chulo, ver los dientes de un mamut, de un oso o de una hiena... Los chicos se lo pasaron genial... Nadie se perdió en la oscuridad (lástima...)

The guide spoke perfect English, so everybody was paying attention.

Uf! menos mal que hablaban muuuuyyyy despacito y nos pudimos enterar de todo... es un alivio.!!!

In the evening we went to the cinema. Most people watched an action film (Killers), but some others preferred a romantic one (Letters for Juliet)

La elección de la película romántica fue más acertada... ja ja ja

1st DAY AT SCHOOL

8.30 in the morning. Reception. The students are given folders with school material and MAPS, so that they know how to find their way in town.

In the afternoon, we went for a walk around town. This is Victoria Street, one of the busiest.

DEPARTURE AND ARRIVAL

Here are some pictures of our journey. We had a safe, pleasant flight, and we arrived in Bristol as scheduled.

A ver Carlos, las chicas necesitamos más ropita, maquillaje, zapatos... vamos, que para presumir hay que sufrir... en este caso... pagar... Pero que los chicos no se quedan atrás... ¿Qué me dices del salchichón que algunos llevan en las maletas?

The air-conditioning was too high, and it was freezing inside the plane. However, the students had a great time walking up and down and taking pictures.

Scary landing, but the pilot managed to brake just in time. Very nice weather in Bristol.
